Climate Budget Series: City of Edmonton
A small but growing number of Canadian municipalities have developed climate budgets to align their policies directly with greenhouse gas reduction targets. Once created, the primary challenge is to convert these budgets into practical tools for informed decision-making and ensuring accountability. In the first session of the Climate Budget series, City of Edmonton will share their journey, highlighting key challenges and lessons learned since implementation.
Low Carbon Building Series: Carville Community Centre
Carville Community Centre is a multi-use community hub located in Vaughan that combines spaces for play, learning, fitness, and sports. In this webinar, Lamya Baraam, Energy Project Manager with City of Vaughan, will discuss the facility’s renewable energy sources, the building’s design and operations, the City’s pursuit of LEED Gold and CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standard certifications, and the drivers that made the project feasible.
Leveraging local assets for climate action: Municipal and resident collaborations
In the third installment of the Mobilizing Communities for Local Climate Action series, we will explore how community groups and municipal staff work together to drive local climate action.
This session will showcase the power of collaboration between municipal staff and community groups, highlighting successful partnerships that have driven meaningful change. We will examine how these relationships formed and what makes them work, with examples of successful projects the groups have collaborated on.
BEPS Cop Webinar Series: Energy Benchmarking: Durham Greener Buildings
Benchmarking the energy use of buildings is a critical first step in understanding the performance of our existing building stock. It provides the foundation for jurisdictions to increase transparency and scale up retrofits, enabling municipalities, building owners, and occupants to assess relative energy performance and identify opportunities for retrofits that reduce both energy consumption and emissions.
Join Ian McVey (Durham Region) and Brent Kopperson (Windfall Ecology Centre) as they share insights from the Durham Greener Buildings program. We’ll explore program design, the roadmap for establishing effective benchmarking initiatives, and how these efforts accelerate climate action at the community level
