In 2025, the City of Barrie procured two electric buses. The buses are made by Canadian company New Flyer and feature a 520 kilowatt battery., with a range of 408 kilometres.
The pilot project is supported with funding obtained through Housing Infrastructure and Communities Canada’s Zero Emission Transit Fund, through which the City received $1.65 million.
The pilot began in summer 2025 and will continue until summer 2026, during which the City will collect data on how the buses operate in various conditions.
