Timeline: 2021 onwards
| In 2021, the Joseph Brant Museum received LEED Platinum certification. It has a heat pump system connected to a geo-exchange field located under the parking lot and a green roof. 2023 update: In 2023, the construction of Skyway Community Centre and Park began. At the end of 2023, the following was completed or was underway: – Structural steel has been erected and a metal deck is being installed – Site services installation is ongoing (hydro, gas, water, etc.) – Baseball diamond field posts for the fence and net – Work is underway to prepare the floor for pouring the concrete rink slab – Geothermal wells are being drilled at the back of property The Skyway Community Centre is scheduled to open in 2025. It will be the City’s first low carbon arena with a mechanical system using geothermal as well as recovered heat from the refrigeration plant to heat portions of the facility and a roof structure to support future solar panels. Robert Bateman Community Centre project is underway to convert a 1960s-era high school into a low-carbon community centre. The first phase of construction will increase envelope tightness and insulation and convert the existing HVAC systems so they are suitable for ultra-low temperature heating. This heating will be provided by a ground source heat pump loop in a future phase. The facility will also receive upgraded roof insulation and a solar PV array in a future phase when the existing roof has reached the end of its useful life. The design of the addition to the Burlington Transit facility to house their electric buses and charging equipment will follow the updated Corporate Energy and Sustainable Buildings policy, which will adhere to the Canada Green Building Council Zero Carbon Building Standard. |
