Timeline: 2024 onwards
The Town of Caledon’s Green Development Standards came into effect on July 1, 2024, for all new development applications. They have been rolled out as part of a one-year pilot phase so that staff can evaluate implementation, receive feedback from stakeholders and internal reviewers, and make minor adjustments to the metrics or process after the pilot phase concludes.
Caledon’s GDS follows a single-tier approach, which means that there are no points or “tiers” to be achieved, just one set of metrics (requirements) all of which must be met.
Caledon’s GDS have been organized into three key themes:
- Create complete, connected communities that enable active and sustainable modes of transportation and enhance the well-being of town residents.
- Improve stormwater management, reduce urban heat island effect, and enhance habitat through urban green space.
- Support low-carbon, energy-efficient, and resilient buildings and renewable energy systems.
