Timeline: 2020 onwards
In 2020, the City decided to replace all compressed natural gas (CNG) ice re-surfacers with electric re-surfacers. Eight ice re-surfacers are now in service.
London was one of the first cities in North America to make this move and this project will result in 290 tonnes of greenhouse gas savings annually for the City.
Over 2021-2025, the remaining 12 of the City’s natural gas Zambonis will reach or exceed the end of their 10-year, optimal life cycle, where they will then transition to a fully electric fleet.
