2020 onwards
In 2020, the City of Toronto launched a program to increase solar installations on Toronto rooftops. The City provides information and resources to help Toronto residents and businesses assess their properties’ rooftop solar potential and proceed through the steps to installation.
The City staff has already installed more than 100 rooftop solar PV systems on a variety of City-owned buildings, including community centres, work yards, libraries, and EMS stations.
2021 update:
In 2021, SolarTO received over 600 requests for solar assessments. Due to such high demand, a GIS-based online map was created to help quickly assess individual buildings’ solar PV potential, financial impacts, and environmental benefits.
