Ontario municipalities are taking bold steps toward net-zero emissions, but one of the biggest hurdles is cutting down emissions from buildings. Designing and constructing new buildings to low-carbon standards is a key part of this journey. It’s not just about meeting climate goals, it’s about avoiding costly retrofits down the line.
CAP’s upcoming Low Carbon Building Webinar Series is here to help. Through real-world Ontario-based examples, this series will offer municipal staff practical insights to bridge the gap between planning and action. Learn what’s working, what’s possible, and how to move your municipality closer to its net-zero future.
Series Objectives
- Local Case Studies: Discover municipal and private-sector buildings designed with low-carbon energy systems, built to meet net-zero or near-net-zero standards. These replicable Ontario-based projects offer strategies you can apply in your own community.
- Attracting Low-Carbon Developments: Explore how municipalities can encourage and support private-sector developers and low-carbon utilities, especially as communities grow and evolve.
- Lessons Learned: Hear from experienced project leads who’ll share what they’ve learned, how they gained buy-in, secured funding, and overcame barriers to low-carbon construction.
- Design, Construction, and Operations: See how low-carbon principles are integrated across the entire building lifecycle, from design and construction to day-to-day operations.

Low Carbon Building Series: EX3 Condos
Tuesday, November 25, 2025 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
In this webinar, Tim Weber, Co-Founder of Diverso Energy, and Joseph Feldman, President & COO of Camrost Felcorp, shared insights on the EX3 Condos geothermal project, the tallest residential development in North America to feature a geothermal energy system. From both the energy utility and developer perspectives, the webinar explored how the geothermal vision for EX3 Condos began and evolved. We took a look at the early conversations that set the stage, the drivers that made the project feasible, and the decision-making process that brought it to life.

Join us for our Low Carbon Buildings Webinar to explore the University of Toronto’s Project Leap! Catherine Thorn, Director of Sustainability & Energy Management, will share insights on campus-wide sustainability initiatives – including expanding the campus’s ability to capture and store heat through a new geo-exchange system beneath Front Campus, phasing out natural gas in favour of electrification for heating, upgrading to energy-efficient LED lighting in 38 buildings, and optimizing energy used for air distribution systems in key research laboratories.
Together, these efforts will reduce nearly 50,000 metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year, equivalent to the energy use of more than 10,000 homes. Explore the drivers that made this project feasible and how similar approaches could be applied to your community.
