Ontario’s electricity system is slated for significant growth in the coming years, and electricity generation from solar and wind will form a substantial percentage of that new growth because of the cost-effectiveness of those generation sources. If you are a landowner, business owner, local decision maker, or other community member, this project will help you understand utility-scale renewable energy development. It provides information on what to expect during such development, operations, and decommissioning of renewable energy projects in Ontario and what questions to ask energy developers. This guide was developed based on research and conversations with project developers, landowners, and communities regarding renewable energy projects.

Part 1 of this guide provides background information and explains how wind and solar technology work and what drives its development.
Part 2 focuses on wind and solar project development, timelines and contract types and provides some questions to consider when asking developers.
